SwitchBot is an affordable smart home brand that is starting to make a name for itself in the world of IoT home automation. The company’s vision is pretty straightforward: make traditional “silly” household items smarter with the help of SwitchBot products.
Considering the budget-friendly nature of SwitchBot’s products, it should be intriguing. The brand produces clean and minimalist gadgets like smart security cameras and mechanical switches to support a variety of smart assistants and ecosystems. SwitchBot devices are compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri, Samsung SmartThings, IFTTT, and Clova.
The concept of smart accessories that perform manual functions is exciting, to say the least. Many of SwitchBot’s gadgets were particularly intriguing because they transform “silly” items like curtain rods and physical switches into smart things that can be controlled by your voice assistant or phone app of choice. It’s been a longtime dream of mine to not have to throw away or replace fixtures around the house. Let’s see if SwitchBot has helped make those dreams come true with a variety of inexpensive smart home products.
Make your home smarter with SwitchBot
SwitchBot sent me a different set of products for creating and testing smart home setups. You don’t necessarily need a hub to use everything, but some features can’t be unlocked until you get them from the brand. ) SwitchBot Hub Mini.
I received my Hub Mini and it didn’t spoil my home automation experience in any way. Below is a complete list of all the other SwitchBot items I tested over his two months.
- SwitchBot Hub Mini
- SwitchBot Bot
- SwitchBot Remote
- SwitchBot Color Bulb
- SwitchBot Pan/Tilt Cam
- SwitchBot motion sensor
- SwitchBot contact sensor
- SwitchBot Meter Plus
SwitchBot offers other notable products besides the above. If I were to list the most interesting products I haven’t had a chance to try, the SwitchBot Curtain and SwitchBot Lock are the most worthwhile.
The first step in assembling your own smart home is the setup and installation process. With all these items, I found it very simple and easy to connect everything together.SwitchBot comes with cables, 3M glue, adapters, screws, plates, etc. Everything that could possibly be is included. At such a competitive price point, including extra features like these makes the deal that much sweeter.
SwitchBot’s gadgets have a simple design language and a generally compact form factor, so these accessories don’t require a lot of space and blend nicely into the background.
Everything can be connected quickly and seamlessly without complicated steps. After installing the SwitchBot app, follow the on-screen instructions to set up your device or follow the included documentation. The whole process is very user friendly. For reference, I got my SwitchBot bot up and running in less than 5 minutes.
SwitchBot’s Hub Mini is very small and very light. This awesome little hub has an IR blaster that helps you add electronics to your phone that are controlled via an IR beam. I had fun with it, mapping the controls of a cheap unnamed Chinese TV to my phone and controlling it with the SwitchBot app instead of a bulky remote control. It’s smart now.
Hub Mini enhances the experience by connecting various SwitchBot smart home tools with each other and helping create schedules for them. The level of detailed routines and automation you can create is incredible. He can set the conditions for the SwitchBot motion sensor to trigger a color valve or pan/tilt cam, or he can configure the meter’s thermometer to use the SwitchBot bot to press a button when it detects a certain temperature .
I attached the bot to the power button of an outdated non-smart AC and connected it to the remote control. This allowed me to click the SwithBot Remote’s wireless button from anywhere in the house to turn on an old AC that didn’t even have a remote.
There’s no end to the conditions you can set, and in addition to these smart home perks, it’s all voice-controlled. Whether you have a Google Nest Mini or an Echo Dot, simply speak to your smart assistant to control your SwitchBot smart device.

SwitchBot makes a number of smart home gadgets, all of which fall in the mid-to-low price range. Not only are the purchase costs of these smart home accessories attractive, they work extremely well.
Even in the face of stiff competition, many of SwitchBot’s offerings serve as suitable substitutes for the best. See detailed smart home stats and logs in the companion app. Color bulbs also track the amount of power used and saved over time. This gorgeous smart light bulb has adjustable brightness and a wheel of 16 million colors to choose from.
Then there’s the Switchbot Pan/Tilt Cam, which comes in a 1080p model and a 2K variant. Many of its features are found in the best indoor security cameras. It can be mounted upside down, the camera pans and tilts have night vision, two-way voice communication, and it even rotates 360 degrees. The SwitchBot smart security camera offers local storage with a slot for SD cards. You can also save the footage directly to your smartphone. It also has a privacy shutter, but it looks like a creepy matryoshka doll with eyeballs on its face.
Points to note when cutting corners
Not all SwitchBot products are perfect. Of course, this is to be expected with a budget product. The biggest problem with these gadgets is that they still use Micro-USB. To compensate, the SwitchBot ships with a cable and wall charger.
However, this doesn’t make up for the fact that it’s a terrible USB standard. The connector is terrible and the Micro-USB is irreversible and will damage the pins at a faster rate over time I am appalled at her Micro-USB wish the world peace with it I would be happy if you let me die.
Some smart products are not the best at converting all stupid items into smart items. The SwitchBot bot can turn on almost any switch, but most of them cannot be turned off again. A very specific type of switch is required to allow the bot to turn it off. This defeats the purpose of getting such a simple solution in the first place. Why replace your old switch with a compatible one when you can get another brand of smart switch?
SwitchBot’s products are still attractive
That said, I think SwitchBot’s smart home accessories and add-ons are worth the purchase. Their wide compatibility, low cost, and easy setup are enough to justify the antiquated Micro-USB port. With the SwitchBot Hub or Hub Mini, creating your own routines and schedules is super easy and integrate it all with your favorite smart speakers.
SwitchBot has regular firmware updates and I had a good experience with their customer support. All things considered, SwitchBot is the perfect place to meet your smart home automation needs. No need to break the bank or confuse your senses with complicated installation instructions.
voice control switch
Convert your old switches into smart switches with the mechanical SwitchBot bot. Set up via Wi-Fi, the bot will push a button when you place an order via voice control or the app on your phone.
small but mighty
The SwitchBot Hub Mini features a small footprint, but don’t let that fool you. Make your old IR controlled electronics smart and help you integrate and automate your SwitchBot smart home products.
let there be light
Smart light bulbs are all the rage, and the SwitchBot Color Bulb proves why. Not only is it fully customizable with voice control, but it works in tandem with his other SwitchBot gadgets to give you detailed stats on your power usage.
SwitchBot Pan/Tilt Cam 2K
private and secure
SwitchBot’s Pan/Tilt Cam 2K has a built-in privacy shutter and lots of smart features inside. With 2K recording, night vision, microphone, speaker, and various modes, this smart security camera is great value for money.
