The restaurant was originally planned to be developed across the street from the center of the University of California, Berkeley campus, on the ground floor of a large new student housing project at 2580 Bancroft Way. Well, the search continues.

Doyle, who is also a fryer and cashier at Raising Cane’s, added that the team is actively looking for new locations and aims to open in Berkeley as soon as possible. Plans for his Hayward Raising Cane location, scheduled at 26231 Mission Blvd., are still underway, and the store is expected to open in early 2024, Doyle said.

Raising Cane’s debuted its first East Bay location at 8430 Edgewater Drive in Auckland in July, as first reported by KRON4. Since then, Cane’s cult hoped that the Berkeley-based store would break ground. For now, Caniacs can visit the Oakland store near the Coliseum for chicken tender cravings until Cane’s team finds the perfect spot for their next Berkeley location.
