“I’m crazy – my heart is pounding”

On July 26, when the Venice line-up was announced, my 14-year-old daughter Emma started pestering me that I had to take her to the red carpet to meet Timothée Chalamet. I thought Bones and All’ (about two cannibals falling in love) was too tragic for her, but in the end I relented. So we found a middle ground. Instead of going inside to see a movie, I tried to meet Chalamet (or “Timmy,” as he called it).

So there we were—Emma. Her friend Nina, 13 years old. Me and — Red, behind her carpet, in a small reserved spot for journalists, across from the fans, on a balmy late afternoon, awaited sightings of A her list. And for a while it was pretty boring. The girls spotted ‘Outer Banks’ star Chase Stokes. YouTuber Emma Chamberlain; Simone Ashley, whom they knew in “Bridgerton,” and Italian Luca Argentero, who stars in the local medical procedure “Doc.” The most exciting thing for me was to see Thea, the gorgeous newborn daughter of Venetian chief Alberto Barbera, brought out on the red carpet by her nanny for her first taste of stratospheric stardust like Emma. I saw it.

Then I heard the roar of an orchestra of fans in an immediate frenzy…a rush of excitement. A primitive roar of mostly female screams that always reminds me of early Beatlemania. But Timmy is still gone. Our view was blocked by an obnoxious onlooker on the carpet in view.

We got our first glimpse of Chalamet in a backless, blood-red jumpsuit on the giant screen. “He’s almost naked!” said Emma. Finally, he’s right in front of us, moving the crowd with his rockstar swagger and big heart, and a wave of screams that interrupts Timmy’s every move as he bathes in the crowd.

And the most amazing thing. Shalame approached. Emma and Nina got selfies from their favorite stars.

Here’s what they think about why Chalamet represents the pinnacle of Gen Z cool:

Why do you love Timothée Chalamet?

Emma: he is hot He’s a great actor and has a great character. He is very kind to his fans. he has his feet on the ground I can say that he is a beautiful person. He likes watching his interviews in his spare time.

Nina: “Call me by your name” It was a tough role. He really made me feel the change he went through in that movie.

What made you want to see him up close in Venice??

Nina: First, he’s really hot. But it’s also because I’ve seen all of his movies, and I want to be an actress, so his acting is an inspiration to me.

What’s so hot about Timothée Chalamet?

What did you think when you first saw him?

Nina: I first spotted him on the boat this morning. That was the beginning of the excitement. I was hooked. Then when he arrived on the red carpet and everyone started screaming, my heart pounded.

When did you see him on the red carpet?

Emma and Nina: He spent a lot of time with his fans on the other side of the catwalk. But it was great to see him interacting with fans on the big screen. he was trying to make everyone happy. We saw him ask the guard if he could make another patrol.

How did you get the selfie?

Emma: There was a girl next door who was writing fan letters, someone told me, and he came over to us. So we slipped next to her and asked if we could take her picture. I did it twice because Nina’s hands were shaking. He was patient and even said “no problem”. Then we really chuckled. I was jumping Nina started crying.
